(creating the account)
search “azure” on google, click the first link, and sign up. make a microsoft account or log in if you already have one. during signup, you’ll need a payment card (use a prepaid card like revolut to avoid charges). you get $200 in free credits, and after it’s used, they won’t charge unless you enable pay-as-you-go.
(setting up the vps)
go to azure’s homepage and click on “virtual machines,” then “create,” and “create new resource group.” name your virtual machine and choose your region (if it’s unavailable, try different ones). pick a windows server version (data center recommended) and enable “azure spot discount” for lower costs. set a username and password for the vps. click “review and create,” and wait for the setup to finish.
(accessing the vps)
once created, go to “virtual machines” on the homepage, find your vps, and copy its ip address. use remote desktop connection on your pc, input the vps ip, username, and password, then connect.
(configuring the vps)
in the server manager, turn off two settings under “local server” for smoother use. install google chrome or any browser of your choice to access the internet properly.
(managing the vps)
monitor your azure credits regularly. to stop the vps, go to “virtual machines,” select the vps, and click “stop.”
put in the effort and you’ll have a fully functional vps running in no time.
